On June 20, 2018, five years late, the United Arab Emirates submitted its first periodic report to the United Nations Committee Against Torture.

It is important to highlight that the content of the report does not reflect in any way the experiences of hundreds of victims of torture in the country and in the secret prisons run by the United Arab Emirates in Yemen and for which no reference has been made.

This report on the measures that the country has put in place to implement the Convention against torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT) is likely to be reviewed by the Committee during its next session in 2019. AVT-UAE will participate in this procedure and provide testimony as well as a detailed report on the actual situation in detention centers in the United Arab Emirates and in the areas where the country is directly involved, including military.
